We finally stopped at Balmorhea state park for the night which has
a very large spring fed swimming pool that is 72-74 year round. When I say large, I think it might have been
2 or more Olympic lengths but it was hard to tell because there was a large
circle in the middle, maybe 100’, and had two rectangular sections coming out
at about a 90 degrees which may have been .75 an Olympic lengths.
The pools floor was made of rocks and algae, not safe for bare feet.
Sunset at the park
This is our camp site for the night.
Anyway, I was not going to get in but when Rachel said there
were fish in the pool and found the fish would nibble your feet if you stayed
sill enough, I could not resist. The
fish are small minnows in the 5 foot section and Rachel said she saw larger
ones in the 25 foot section.
That night we saw a TON of stars out even though the camp
had a few campers with porch lights, more than I have seen in a very long time,
and we really enjoyed our space heater as it got into or near the upper
30s. The next day we filled up our water
tank, stopped back in town to fill up and get a few groceries because we were
not sure what we would find from this point south. Rachel got a neat pic of a tree that made a
bridge of a channel.
